Gidley Gets Two Rides For 2005
Lynx Racing graduate Memo Gidley, a top Champ Car driver
who has turned his attention to sports car racing for 2005,
will drive two vastly different cars during the season both
with sponsorship from the Air Force Reserve.
Gidley, along with 2004 Formula Mazda champion Michael McDowell,
is racing the #19 Riley BMW for Ten Motorsports in the GrandAmerican
Daytona Prototype class. In their debut race, at the 2005
Rolex 24 at Daytona, the team qualified in the top 10, and
ran in the top 5 before a series of mechanical problems relegated
them to a mid-pack finish. In the second race, at Homestead
Raceway, the team finished a strong 10th.
In addition to his Prototype duties, Gidley will also be
racing the Techsport Racing Technology Ford Focus in the SCCA
Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge Touring Car Championship.
The team, which spent the 2004 campaign developing the Ford
Focus while flying the Air Force Reserve colors, enters the
2005 season with momentum after Gidley scored the team and
car's first-ever podium finish at the '04 season finale. Techsport
expects major improvements in 2005 after a busy offseason
for both the team and engine supplier Mountune.
"I am really looking forward to racing the Focus this
year, and now that we have experience with the car, I am very
excited about our prospects," Gidley said.
Ford Racing Parts will continue to aid in the effort of the
Techsport Focus with parts and support throughout the year.
"We are delighted to maintain our relationship with Ford
Racing, and their input with respect to the car's development
will be a great help," team boss Andy Brown said.
A replica of the Air Force Reserve Focus will tour the country
this year as part of the Ford Racing Roadshow, attending a
variety of events. The Techsport Racing/Air Force Reserve
Ford Focus is also sponsored by P5 wheels, Proflex suspension,
AP Racing, Wolf designs and Custom Autoworks. The 2005 SCCA
SPEED Touring Car season begins March 16-18 as part of the
Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring.
