Steve Cameron - Team Manager
Team manager, Steve Cameron, himself a highly-qualified
racing driver, is now in his 10th year of overseeing operations
at the championship-winning Lynx Racing team.
He began his racing career by winning the New Zealand Formula
Vee Championship in 1979 and receiving the Bruce McLaren Memorial
Trophy. He moved up to Formula Ford in 1980, and to the Formula
Pacific series in 1981-82. He worked as the Chief Mechanic
for the Rick Shea Formula Atlantic team in 1983 and drove
in selected races.
In 1984, Steve won the WCAR Pro Formula Atlantic race at
the Westwood track in Canada, finished second in the New Zealand
International Formula Pacific Championship and won the Lady
Wigram Trophy. Steve ran selected SCCA Pro Sports 2000 races
in 1985 and IMSA GTO series in 1986, finished third in the
L.A. Times Grand Prix.
Steve and Dr. Joe McGee established the Cameron-McGee Motorsports
facility at the Sears Point Race way in 1987, which specializes
in race car fabrication, preparation and driver development.
Cameron Motorsports Management took over operations in 1997,
and has expanded to include Cameron Karting (www.cameronkarting.com).Cameron
ran Formula Ford in 1989, winning the SCCA Northwest Division
Championship. He also sat on the pole at SCCA Valvoline National
runoffs, finished second, and won the Pat Piggott Memorial
Award. Steve competed in the Barber-Saab series in 1990, finished
fourth in the series even though he ran only 9 of 12 races.
He won the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1991 as co-driver of the
Comptech Acura GTP car, and won again in 1992. That same year
he also finished second in the Toyota Atlantic Championship
with eight top-3 finishes.
He ran Daytona with the Comptech team again 1993, and was
the race and test driver for the new Raven Race Cars Atlantic
car and the test driver for Yokohama's new radial Formula
Atlantic tire. In the 1994 season, he raced and tested for
Raven and Yokohama as well as the Shannon Sports 2000 car.
Cameron still performs testing duties for the Lynx Racing
Atlantic team and is the driving coach for current Lynx driver
Bryan Sellers. He currently races a 125cc shifter kart, and
has done development driving for the new Star Formula Mazda
Pro Series race car.
Born in Auckland, New Zealand in 1960, he is married with
two daughters.
